A celebration of the tango drew 300 participants to Regent's Park in London yesterday, and transfixed hundreds of passers-by. The event raised hundreds of pounds for the Prince of Wales' Royal Parks Appeal and helped so show that the British were shedding their image as a nation of reluctant dancers, said the organiser, Kele Baker, of the Kensington Dance Studio. "We held two tango classes for absolute beginners and they were both attended by more than a hundred people," she said. "The spectators really got enthusiastic about it as well and burst into spontaneous applause at the end of every dance, even though most of the participants were novices."
